Born in England in 1983, Gareth Potts began playing pool at a very young age in his parents’ pub. At just 7 years-old, standing on a crate to reach the table, he was already developing the skills that would one day make him a World champion. His natural ability quickly became apparent, attracting early sponsorships and setting him on the path to a remarkable professional career.

His breakthrough came in 2000 when he won the Junior World Pool Championship at just 16 years-old. It was the beginning of an exceptional journey that would establish him as one of the defining figures in English 8-ball.

Between 2005 and 2013, Gareth captured 4 World English 8-Ball Championship titles. Known to fans and fellow competitors as “The Golden Boy,” he became synonymous with consistency, composure and winning at the highest level.

In 2013, Gareth made the transition from English 8-ball to Chinese 8-ball, now widely known as Heyball. He won his first JOY World Chinese 8-Ball Masters title in 2013 after defeating fellow English star Chris Melling in the final. He successfully defended his title in 2014 before claiming a 3^rd Masters crown in 2017.

In November 2025, Gareth captured his 1^st JOY/WPA Heyball World Championship in Australia. In August 2026, he won his 2^nd Heyball World Championship in India, back-to-back.
